Yeah we take an image, but it is very large and takes about 8 hours to recover.
While we are doing that I want to meet if we can speed up by trying what I suggested or what anyone else suggests.

I would bank check the disks and memory diags earlier trying to restore/repair anything. One of my older servers displayed the same symptoms recently that turned out to me bad memory.

Going off what Gary said first, try a repair.
Kicking into the recovery console from your Windows Server 2008 DVD.
Select Control prompt from your options in the recovery console.
Become to X:\sources\recovery and run startrep.exe.
Y'all tin also try the system file checker: SFC.EXE /scannow /offbootdir:c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows
Another thing to attempt from the recovery console command prompt is chkdsk:
chkdsk C: /f and and so chkdsk C: /r

1. memory diagnostic
2. hard deejay diagnostic - chkdsk,/r, sfc /scannow
3. boot from dvd media and try a repair.
and 4 - a fill-in image taking viii hours to restore? what fill-in are yous using, that is ridiculous in todays world!

Guys.. Thanks all for your help and input.
Problem is solved by the restore of the VM.
I tried almost of your suggestions while the restore was running, but did non gear up it unfortunately.
I agree that eight hours is way to long, but customer uses Xackup from Fungusware.... Very very inexpensive, very very slow, only in the end it did save us.
